"The friends" is something you'll never hear in the UK. I think it's a Millerite thing that never made it across the pond.

"The Brothers"
by jambon1 in.
the longer you spend away from the organisation, the more utterly cringeworthy this term sounds when you hear it.. like they are all one big happy family.
what jw phrases make you cringe?.

What We Do Here Can Help Save A Life!
by minimus ini believe that there are a lot of "lurkers" here.
many witnesses look at this site and try to figure out if they should stay or possibly come over here and take the plunge.. what we say, how we say it, can make a difference in somebody's life.
it is why i personally avoid sensationalism in my comments.

Over at JWR, it shows how many registered users and guests are online at any time. The unregistered usually number between 25 and 40, at any given time. That's a much smaller board too.
My guess is there are thousands of lurkers here. Many will be 'loyal' elders looking for the first scoop on what's going on in the borg.

I've lurked a long time: JW's produce some of the most paranoid humans
by Unlearn ini'll keep this brief for now.. long time lurker (4 years or so).. born-in, elder, used on district level (last talk i gave before i left was the baptisimal talk), and lots of hard time put in...before i finally made the move to split.
it's a long stoy, much like many of yours...but with it's own little interesting twists.
more details in the future, perhaps.. as i said, ive lurked here for a while.. its funny: for a long time i'd only come on late at night.

Welcome! Thanks for sharing your story.
I was the first one to awake and can relate to the late nights on the computer. My husband has left mentally too and the advice to be patient was the best anyone gave me.

So why did the organisation cause you anxiety or depression?
by TimothyT inin regards to my other post regarding attending counselling as a jw, i was wondering what it was about being a jw that caused you to be anxious, stressed or depressed?.
for me, i knew that the person i wanted to be was constantly being supressed by the wt.
there was a battle going on in my head between who i wanted to be and who they wanted me to be.

My feeling was a sense of frustration, I couldn't even quantify it before my awakening but I think looking back it was just 30+ years of resentment. I had spent my whole life adopting someone else's opinions, ideals, aspirations...somewhere deep down I knew they didn't belong to me.

Disturbing parallels between the Westboro Baptists and the WTS
by cedars ini have just published a post on jwstruggle.com where i explore the disturbing parallels between the methods and attitudes of the westboro baptist church and jehovah's witnesses.. you may be aware of two recent bbc documentaries by louis theroux, one of which was called "the most hated family in america", the other "america's most hated family in crisis".
i feel that both are excellent viewing for those of us with wives or loved ones who are trapped in the "borg" and wish to draw attention to the similarities between the society and other more obvious cults.. if you would like to read my post, it is on this link: http://www.jwstruggle.com/2011/10/a-troubling-comparison-part-1/.
i hope i haven't offended anyone by posting the link.
